If the straw that breaks the economy’s back happens before the 2012 election then I could see a chance for it to be a bust out year for a third party. Although in a plurality-take-all system I still think it might be too early—it will almost certainly take much longer for the masses to let it sink in that both parties have delivered them to their collective misery.

What worries me especially is that Obama will achieve what he is setting out to: the economy will limp on until the next election. If that happens then I will be dreading a potential Ron Paul presidency as his policies would surely allow the economy to tank into the necessary correction.

Libertarianism and the hands-off government approach, in general, would surely be blamed if Ron Paul sat at the helm when the inevitable correction takes place. I just don’t trust the masses enough to understand the truth. They have proven themselves time and again as the quintessential laughingstock for the political class—a class whose only real skill besides murder seems to be their ability to dupe.

No. I would much rather Ron Paul take the helm after the serious crash where libertarian policies would be seen as the healing policies that they are. Besides, it would be so sad to see libertarians–the political wallflowers and the only voice of reason over the last few destructive decades–be blamed for the inevitable crash. That would be so sad…
